Mosaic stories

Stories of form and colour.

This is a collection of three separate but still uniform photograph series. Often, hurry and the ordinariness of things can prevent us from seeing them. As a visually impaired person, I have been given a magnifying device which makes it easier to see things. Small details may be very interesting when you see them for the first time in a slightly different light.

The photographs in the trilogy have been taken with an assisting device, and the selection criterion has been, among other things, that if the thing or place is recognisable in the picture, the picture has not been included.

Abstract art is a completely hidden world for some of us. There is just the wonder why it has been made. Is it possible to understand something one does not understand? If speech is removed, communication between two people can happen through forms and colours. So the visual language is a journey between the two of us.

It is, perhaps, a question of accepting differences. We do not always even hear each other, let alone a different way of bringing oneself up, which could be a window into riches.

As a visually impaired person, as my vision has deteriorated over the years, it has made me see the world differently. The world has not necessarily changed, but I have changed.

In the 13th century, Thomas Aquinas said that the basis of aesthetics is: "The senses are delighted by harmony". This can be found in nature and in art.

A lot of symmetry can be found in nature. Whether it is the universe or microscopic tiny forms there are always certain regular forms. The photographs are pictures taken in 2018 and 2019.

When things are substantially magnified, one can find, even at the macroscopic level, a universe, different, but still so familiar. This series of images wishes to describe and show just that.
