Founded on 1.4.1890. The name of the association was "Böcker åt de blindas - Books for the blind". The purpose of the association was to open a treasure trove of literature for the blind. The members of the association copied the works in Braille.
When there were enough books, the association established a lending library in 1894.
1978 The Books for the Blind Association changed its name to the Library Association for the Visually Impaired.
When the actual library was transferred to the state, the association continued as a library support association, supporting literature for the visually impaired and acting as an interest organization for borrowers.
